Today’s Card – Kent Hovind
August 10th, 2008 Posted in Game CardsWelcome to the third in our collectible card series, “Frauds, Idiots and Loonies”. Today’s card represents the legendary creationist Kent Hovind, known by many as “Dr Dino” for his absurd belief that dinosaurs and humans co-existed. No, really. Hovind, a convicted felon currently serving ten years for tax evasion, was a prolific writer and public speaker when not in jail, and was well known for his absurd use of non-sequitur and straw man fallacies when trying to find a coherent case for young earth creationism.
Given the clinically insane nature of many of Hovind’s claims, many will wonder why I only gave him 9/10 in the ‘craziness’ category. That was a decision based on my personal suspicion that he doesn’t really believe everything he says. If he did then there’s no doubt that he’d get a ten. Also, note that these cards are normalised based not on a rational population, but within the population of frauds, idiots and loonies, in which Hovind is far less prominently weird. I also knocked his wealth down to a 7 because, although he earned a lot of money from his activities, he then lost quite a lot of it in the tax fraud case and I can’t imagine ten years in prison will serve his finances particularly well.
Without further ado, here’s the card!
