I often find myself arguing pointlessly against people who refuse to accept the scientific opinion on a certain subject, and feel sure that their viewpoint will be vindicated in a few years’ time. Maybe they’re right – who knows? Well here’s a perfect place for them to get their revenge on me in a public and humiliating way.
On this page I will post petitions which allow members of the public to publicly state their viewpoints on a number of imortant issues. However, these are petitions with a difference: if your viewpoint turns out to be wrong within the stated timeframe then, by signing, you agree to post a video of yourself in a publicly available online location, such as YouTube, admittting that you were wrong and your opponents were right.
If the consensus is still uncertain by this date (the majority opinion is less than 80% of the total number of scientists researching this field), then the petition will continue open until such a time as the majority opinion next rises above the 80% mark.
And yes, I will sign up to every single one of them.
I’m sorry that this layout is a bit pants at the moment – I’ll update it soon. Maybe.
