Pope Is Moron

December 23rd, 2008 Posted in Religion

Pope Benedict XVI has publically stated that homosexuality is a plague that must be eliminated, and that this struggle is just as important as fighting against global warming and other environmental issues, underlining how completely out of touch the old man is with any form of objective reality. Given that the Roman Catholic church has only recently (1992) apologised for persecution of Galileo, some 400 years late, for supporting the Copernican finding that the Sun, not the Earth, was at the centre of the Solar system, one might be expecting the Pontiff to catch up with the reality that sexual orientation is a largely genetic effect, some time within the mid-to-late 24th century.

But there’s much more to it than this – the fact that sexual preference is genetic is irrelevant – it’s a private matter which has absolutely no bearing on the lives of others whatsoever. What two (or more) consenting grown men choose to do with their genitals in private is of absolutely no relevance to any other human being, and the fact that the Pope, along with many religious leaders and fundamentalists, can’t seem to understand this simple fact is a stunning example of the inanity that often accompanies strong religious belief. And then they wonder why increasingly large proportion of the population think that they’re irrelevant to, and out of touch with, the modern world.

In other news, a recent report showed that female online gamers are over five times more likely to be bisexual than average. So I’m sure his “Holiness” will be condemning online games as ushering in Satan some time soon. The rest of us will just be enjoying the fun…

What disturbs me more is that if one of the heads of state had said this, it would be classed as a serious blunder and the general public would be demanding an apology.

However, since the Pope said it the entire roman catholic world will probably take it as ‘Gods’ law and not question or argue the point – blindly accepting whatever garbage comes out of his mouth like the good little sheep they are.

I find it especially disturbing that due to the vast numbers of catholic followers, the Pope could be classed as a world leader in more ways than just a religious one. He’s got more ‘citizens’ than some countries, not to mention financial resources. Lot of power there.

As for the video game thing, well religious types have been labelling anything even remotely fun evil for centuries. I play video games while drinking beer, listening to rock music and swearing at the bi-sexual female gamer that’s just kicked my characters butt for the seventh time. I think that means my soul is pretty much screwed as far as the Pope is concerned.

I think that the number of Roman Catholics is slightly exceeded by the number of Chinese, but only slightly. So basically, the Pope governs the world’s second largest country, spread across the globe. Only, as opposed to most dictatorships where the ruler is generally not liked and not trusted – in this case the ‘citizens’ believe he’s the infallible messenger of God. So when he says something insane and Medievally backward, they’re obliged to follow him. Which is troubling – especially when what he says is something like “we must stamp out worldwide homosexuality” or, even worse “contraception is wrong. Even in countries where a third of the population is dying of AIDS.”
